Hi, I'm Salli. I attended my first yoga class 30 years ago, hoping for some peace away from my crazy life working in the music business. That first class gave me a taste of the possibilities that might lie ahead, and Sunday mornings soon took on a different shape. Over time I realised that there were no shortcuts and that real change would need real work, though the Westernised yoga classes I found in most studios seemed more concerned with comfort than transformation. I dipped in and out of classes for many years, never fully committing, never fully letting go.
Fast forward to 2017, when relocation to York provided me with the opportunity to practice regularly with a senior Iyengar teacher. The challenging nature of this traditional approach to asana (postural practice) and the inclusion of meditation, pranayama, and chanting in class really appealed to me, and I began a regular home practice. The following year I stumbled upon Ashtanga when searching for a sequence to practice at home. I immediately connected with the basis of the Ashtanga method – a series of sequences that act as a framework for self-exploration and growth. I found a local teacher and began learning primary series, practicing several times a week and attending my first Mysore classes.
In autumn 2019 I began travelling to Leeds each week to practice Mysore-style with my teacher Joey Miles. I completed primary series with Joey and began intermediate series during lockdown over Zoom, continuing to practice several times a week until we could meet again in person.
I continue to practice regularly with Joey and attend retreats with him when I can, including an amazing trip to India in autumn 2025.
I completed my 200-hour YTT with The YogaSpace in Leeds in 2022, motivated by the desire to share the joy of this amazing, transformational practice.
Later in 2022 I completed Level 1 Pranayama teacher training with The Yoga Education College, founded by Eddie Stern, another senior teacher I am blessed to have practiced with.
My aim is to share what I have learned, and continue to learn, on this lifelong journey. My approach to teaching is playful and supportive, meeting you where you are without pressure or judgement. If you’ve been searching for a place to begin, or begin again, to nurture your whole self, get in touch. Our community is well established and I’m thrilled to be offering weekly Mysore classes from January 2026.
